Primarily located in the south tower, Standard Double Rooms feature two double beds and are the perfect choice for families or groups with multiple occupants. The high ceilings, wide window expanses and large closets offer an abundance of space and a roomy feel that separates our standard rooms from other hotel offerings in downtown Chicago. Because of the large number of Standard Doubles we have to offer, guests can request specific floors, adjoining rooms or be blocked together with friends and family. While a large portion of the hotel is non-smoking, we have smoking rooms available upon request.

Excellent location, with a great view of Lake Michigan. I was really surprised to find a hotel in Chicago for less than $100 a night. I also like the history and the fact that it is thought to be haunted. I love staying places with history.

I was really bothered by the fact I had to cross a picket line to go into the hotel. I do not feel good staying someplace where people are not paid fairly. I also thought the service was very minimal. For example, when we returned on Saturday at 3:30 for a nap before going out in the evening for an early dinner and a show, our room had not been cleaned. I was told they would have to clean it right away or not at all. I just had them drop off towels because we wanted to relax.

Historical place and a really confortable!

There is not a free internet in any room. You need to pay almos 10 dollars for a day, I just stayed one night but imagine that I would stay 5 nights ... 50 dollars...

Amazing view of Grant Park/Navy Pier from our room. The bed was extremely comfortable. Location convenient for city trip as it is possible to walk to most popular areas. We needed prompt laundry/drycleaning services and this was not a problem. In less than 8 hours our clothing was taken care of and delivered to our room. Very convenient. We have stayed here before and will stay here again in the future.

Internet access should be free of charge in my opinion. $7 for 24 hours of wireless access in the lobby or $10 for 24 hours of cable hook up access in the room is a little much. The hotel is classy, this takes away from that...

I loved the location of the hotel. It was within walking distance to many restaurants including Lou Malnati's and Giordano's. It was very close to Grant and Millennium Park as well as the magnificent mile. It was only a 5 minute taxi ride to all the bars on State and District st. The location was the best. Also, the hotel staff from bell man to front desk were very knowledgeable and were able to give his tips on where to find the hidden gems of Chicago! The bar staff was great. Our bartender Lydia was very knowledgeable and friendly towards my girlfriend and I and she made awesome drinks!

Though the location was great, the hotel itself wasn't so great. Once you get in the hotel is gorgeous but the rooms not so much. The room we got clearly indicated that it was a non-smoking room but once we got in the room, the room smelled like it had been smoked in for 4 nights straight. I had to go down to the front desk just to make sure that I wouldn't be charged a $250 smoking fee for a non smoking room that smelled like smoke. There were no microwaves and no refrigerators so we weren't able to bring left overs from the amazing restaurants. The housekeeping staff was annoying. They kept trying to come in our room to clean it while we were still there. Each time we would tell them no thank you and an hour later they would be back to clean it again! I would recommend this hotel only because of its convenient location and friendly staff.

We had a horrible experience with the beligerent man next door. We also didn't feel security did their best to get him to quiet down. After calling security at 3am the gentleman proceeded to slam his door repeatedly and left the volume on his television extremely loud even after leaving his room. We were sleepless from 3am until after 5am. When we complained the desk said "you can choose to move rooms.". That seemed very inconsiderate and we felt as though it was our fault and we should "move" or else that's what we should deal with. The complaint should have been handled better as it was not our fault.

As a carpenter I notice details. The rooms trim and up keep was aged, however very clean. The furniture and bed looked good and I loved the high ceiling. A quick mattress check showed no bed bugs. We wanted just to chow on a deep dish and stay close to the highway but for the non prime time rate plus parking we choose to drive another 30 min off of rt. 80, and wake up downtown and take a quick site seeing before we rolled out. I liked the price and location.

It is aged.I Suppose you could keep the classic style but it needs new trim, doors, tile, etc. Furniture was cool. Price and cleanliness kept us at our little off course downtown Chicago loop.

When we arrived I asked for a room facing the lake, and they gently gave us one room with a nice view. The location was perfect, near Millenium Park, so we could easely see The Cloud in different hours of the day, and different weather conditions, with sun, without it, by night, it was very nice. Besides we were also very closed to the Art Museum, the Architect Foundation, the Loop. We could walk to the Magnificent Mile, or take a bus everywhere very easely. It was a very good choice, considering also the price.

The only thing that was complicated was not having a free wi-fi, and even paying we had to go down to the hall, it didn't work in the rooms.

Fabulous view of Lake from room. Upgrade to LakeFront King room is a must. Bartender Gus provided friendly and competent service.

A strike was on and this was uncomfortable to say the least

The hotel was historical, built in 1893, and in a great location by Grant Park!

Our bathroom door did not have a lock, only a hole in the door where the lock used to be. Staff wasn't very friendly.

Because we were able to reduce our room cost through a discount vendor we were able to stay at this classic Chicago hotel. We enjoyed being adjacent to Grant Park and the nearby lakefront parks and walkways. We enjoyed the convenience to Chicago cultural activities (attended Buddy Guy's Legends Blues Club, Kinky Boots theatre production, and took a Chicago Architecture Foundation river cruise) and of course, shopping. We loved being right there in the middle of everything. We enjoyed breakfast twice in the hotel restaurant.

Nothing comes to mind. Oh, we did not use the hotel WiFi service because of the cost. Really, you couldn't include it in the room cost like other hotels.

Nothing. It was shokingly low standard.

The first room I got was half in basement, with windows high up on the wall. The corridor smelled like there has been a water leakage for a long time (half rotten smell). In the room there was a stale smell, almost camouflaged by anit-bug sprays. I demanded a new room, and got it. Next room had full size windows, but smelled awful: Thick, dirty carpets, and the whole room smelled strongly from from germ-killers. Still, there was a big cocharage in the bath room. Gloomy, poorly-lit room and all corridors. Very claustrofobic. In the elevator, I heard other guests complained about their rooms. This hotels needs complete renovation to justify the location and name. I'll never go back.

  • Family with children

    Large room

Reserved two adjoining rooms for two nights. One room had no water (sink or shower) and toilet would not flush. Reported first night. Some water pressure returned but no hot water and no working toilet. Reported on check-out. Told no manager on duty - would need to email complaint for credit on bill.

air conditioning was not tempt friendly, could not walk around in socks they would get dirty, fairly noisy, outdated layout

We liked the Congress Plaza Hotel location and historical beauty. The view was excellent. Beds were comfortable. We'll be back.

It is a bit warm in the rooms.Air conditioning wasn't the best. I wouldn't stay there in the summer.
